In 2000, when the healthcare industry was only beginning to embrace the power of the internet, Patricia (Perusse) Wood, CPC, took a leap of faith. With a strong love for medical billing and an unwavering dedication to her providers, she founded Advanced Medical Consulting and Billing, Inc. (AMC&B) in the basement of her family home in Southwick, Massachusetts.
At the time, outsourcing billing was still a relatively new concept. But Patti saw the possibilities that came with emerging technologies — and she wasn’t afraid to dive in. She invested in the future and in a vision that would ultimately help dozens of healthcare professionals manage their billing with clarity, accuracy, and care.
Her first Practice Management system, Lytec, came through an early partnership with Complete Healthcare Solutions — a company and system that AMC&B still proudly uses today. What began as a solo operation soon grew into a full office with a small, dedicated team. At its peak, AMC&B employed six full-time staff members working side by side to offer precise billing and coding services to small group and solo fee-for-service providers.
Following the loss of founder Patricia (Perusse) Wood to pancreatic cancer in 2022, AMC&B’s legacy continues through a small but highly experienced team of three — all of whom have worked together for nearly a decade. During Patti’s courageous two-year battle with cancer, the team rallied around her, balancing the emotional challenge with the responsibility of keeping the business running smoothly. Their dedication ensured that providers and patients continued to receive the quality service Patti had always insisted upon.
Patti’s passing deeply impacted everyone at AMC&B, strengthening their commitment to honor her vision and uphold the high standards she set. Over the years, the team has further advanced its expertise, with each member earning Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentials and adapting to the evolving landscape of medical billing.
The strength of AMC&B’s relationships with providers is remarkable: over 80% of the company’s clients have been with them for more than 10 years, a testament to the trust and consistent results AMC&B delivers.
In its newest chapter, AMC&B is refocusing on its strongest area of expertise — chiropractic billing, with a specialized emphasis on Personal Injury claims. This is a field where the team brings not only years of experience, but unmatched insight and precision.
AMC&B is also exploring expansion into Physical Therapy billing, with the goal of continuing to grow its provider panel and delivering tailored solutions for practices seeking dependable, results-driven billing support.
The company’s long-term objective is to double in size and return to a six-person team — creating new jobs while preserving the high standards and close-knit culture that Patti Wood originally built.
AMC&B has rebranded to reflect its expanded service offerings. In addition to billing and coding, the company now provides:
At AMC&B, client practices are treated as true partners. Their financial growth is the company’s growth. Their success is the team’s success.
President
Kristy Johnston has been a cornerstone of AMC&B for nearly two decades. As the daughter of founder Patricia (Perusse) Wood, Kristy joined the company 19 years ago, helping to grow the business from a single chiropractic client to a thriving panel of specialized providers.
In 2009, Kristy earned her Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential alongside her mother while preparing for the nationwide ICD-10 transition. Following Patti’s passing in 2022, she earned her Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification and stepped into the role of President.
Kristy is now a leading expert in Personal Injury billing. She developed AMC&B’s proprietary 5-step PI billing process — a system designed to deliver faster results and maximize reimbursements. On average, this process ensures that personal injury claims are fully resolved and paid within 45 days of a patient’s discharge.
Her deep passion for service, along with a commitment to excellence, has positioned her as both a strategic leader and an advocate for healthcare providers. Outside of the office, Kristy enjoys spending time with her two teenage daughters, two dogs, and tending her garden.
Vice President & Claims Resolution Specialist
Michelle Bernier has played a vital role at AMC&B for the past 15 years, currently serving as Vice President and the lead Claims Resolution Specialist. With a strong focus on electronic remittance and claims follow-up, Michelle ensures that even the most complex claims are handled with accuracy and care.
Her career in medical billing began after being introduced to AMC&B through longtime friend Kristy Johnston. In her late 20s and seeking a new professional direction, Michelle joined the company and quickly became an essential part of the team. She earned her CPC certification in 2023 and is now pursuing an associate degree in Health Sciences at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC), furthering her expertise in healthcare administration.
Michelle is known for her diligence, loyalty, and technical skill — qualities that continue to make her an invaluable resource to both the AMC&B team and its providers. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time at her family’s favorite campground with her wife, Assistant Deputy Chief Jessica Bishop, their two dogs, and their cat.
Office Manager
Reanna Gary has been with AMC&B for nine years, currently serving as Office Manager. She is known for her meticulous attention to detail, strong data entry skills, and her natural ability as a patient advocate.
Reanna’s introduction to AMC&B came through a chance encounter. While working as a waitress at Patti Wood’s favorite breakfast spot, she was introduced to Patti by a mutual friend. At the time, Reanna had recently completed her Medical Billing Certification at Holyoke Community College. Recognizing her exceptional customer service skills and strong work ethic, Patti welcomed her into the company.
Reanna went on to earn her CPC certification in 2023, alongside her colleague Michelle Bernier, and continues to grow in her role. She provides steady support in both front-end and back-end operations and is often a go-to team member for patient communications.
Outside the office, Reanna enjoys spending time with her children, grandchild, and her rescue dog — embracing family life with the same dedication she brings to her work.
As new technologies continue to reshape healthcare billing, AMC&B remains firmly rooted in the values that set it apart — personal service, unwavering reliability, and authentic connection with every provider served. The company’s future is built on the foundation laid by Patti Wood — a foundation of family, dedication, and heart.
For providers seeking a billing partner who understands their challenges, shares their values, and stands with them through every obstacle, AMC&B offers more than a service. They offer a partnership — one built to last, grow, and empower.
